Popular Session Topics

Relationships Matter

In this interactive session, we will delve into the fundamental cause of our existence - relationships. The session will focus on how positive relationships between people (such as families, scholars, leaders, providers and community partners) can lead to hope, resilience, and positive outcomes. Through a combination of small and large group activities, we will engage participants in building relationships.

Session objectives:

  • How personal experience, bias, and cultural proficiency can facilitate building strong relationships.

  • How assessment and feedback can foster building relationships.

  • How tangible and measurable strategies and actions can modernize the approach to addressing inclusion and belonging.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Strategic Implementation

Ferguson uses emotions, engaging, strength-based approaches, and personal experiences to empower change. The engagement will increase self-awareness and examine biases. Participants gain exposure to resources and form partnerships through cultural competency, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility.

‘Beyond the Grade’

Essential for those who lead, engage, or mentor (including providers, families, scholars, leaders, and community partners).  This workshop will strengthen your commitment to implementing positive youth development strategies, understanding developmental channels, and supporting youth by decreasing bias, acknowledging developmental changes, and elevating scholars’ voices.

Everyone working with young people needs a basic understanding of youth development beyond their grade level. Knowing the different developmental stages ensures you have realistic goals and expectations when supporting young people at every stage. This enhances your ability to empower, educate, and engage a diverse array of young people, regardless of their biological age, culture, race, academic and behavioral achievements, and expectations.

A Visionaries Blueprint: Right Side of the TRACKS Creating and sustaining a mentorship/leadership program for scholars

This workshop is a great stand-alone or complement to Beyond the Grade. It is intended for those who invest in the development of young people throughout the day. It aims to engage and empower various stakeholders, including direct service workers, educators, administrators, certified and classified agencies, community members, supplemental agencies, and funders. Participants will leave with a shared goal of educating, empowering, elevating scholars' voices, and engaging "Youth at Promise" and those advocating for them.

Ferguson discusses theory, lives, and breathes as a practitioner still doing the work. He leads and has developed multiple initiatives, and his work has been showcased in the 2021 regional Emmy-nominated ‘We Will Not Be Silent.’ He has been a featured presenter at the National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference in Savannah, Georgia, and the lead adult advisor of the acclaimed Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally and March for 27 years.

‘Bigger Than the Score’

Ferguson, a high school and college athlete, coach, parent, and official, offers a unique, authentic, and relatable perspective. He aims to empower, educate, and engage the audience. Scholar-athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, and spectators will be encouraged to shift their perspectives, exploring beyond the final score.

Peter hosts "Bigger Than the Score" on 93.7 The Ticket Radio every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. The show promotes positive actions on and off the field/court and elevates diverse voices.
